about

My name is Suzy and I live in New Jersey. Originally from southern California, my husband (who I refer to as #1) and I moved to NJ in 2008 and love it. I love how rural it is and yes, there is a reason it is called the Garden State.

My background is nutrition. I have a Master's degree in nutrition and have been teaching classes and counseling for the past 8 years. Over those years my philosophy about nutrition has changed a lot. I used to think fat was bad, low cal, low fat products were great, gardening was difficult, making things from scratch took so long and wasn't necessary because of all the great products on store shelves that can be part of a healthy diet.

But as I continued my education outside of college I have really changed how I view nutrition and most importantly food. I believe in eating foods that are less processed and local. I try to cook from scratch as much as possible. I am not afraid of butter, red meat, bacon, lard, tallow, coconut oil or saturated fats. I think when you start off with properly sourced ingredients, like from grass fed animals treated well, then good nutrition will follow.

I am also not "real food ideal" - I do not eat perfect and absolutely have a grounded approach when it comes to food. We can only do so much.

I feel so lucky living in New Jersey because of all the farms we have around. I can actually talk to the farmers who are raising my meat and dairy and walk around their farms. I think that amount of transparency is critical to good nutrition. I still have a long way to go on my food journey, but I feel like I am on the right path.

Besides nutrition, I like anything that has to do with making my house a home. I am a full time homemaker (as of very recently) and cannot wait to raise my family, decorate my house, cook, and be a great wife and mother.

I hope you enjoy and learn something from my adventures.
