We all know we need to eat more greens to maintain a healthy body, but our diets are not always chock full of them and we may need to supplement.

Young Living has a fantastic supplement called MultiGreens that has several green superfoods along with essential oils and amino acids to elevate your wellness. Each of the ingredients has unique properties to them and can be a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.

I am going to go through each ingredient and highlight how it supports our body and the therapeutic properties it has.

As with all supplements it is very important to

  • talk with your physician first
  • do your own research
  • start slow - maybe only one a day
  • understand there are precautions with all supplements

MultiGreens Ingredients

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is a waxy, gum resin that comes from pollen that collects on the bees legs and bodies as they collect the pollen. This pollen is then called bee pollen and is thought to have many beneficial properties to it.

Bee pollen has 8 essential minerals - calcium, iron, copper, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, phosphorus and zinc
It also contains antioxidants in the form of flavanoids that can help protect the gastrointestinal tract.
Been pollen has been shown to have hypolipidemic properties - meaning it decrease fats in the blood.
It may help decrease blood clumping and improve blood flow.
Bee pollen has also been shown to detox the liver and protect liver cells from damage when toxic chemicals are present in the body.
Bee pollen also has anti-inflammatory properties.
It could help with allergies, although at the same time, those with bee allergies could have a reaction to bee pollen as well, so precautions should be taken.

Alfalfa

When you start to research the benefits of Alfalfa, guess what comes up a lot...cow nutrition :) Wading through all the scientific articles on bovine nutrition, along with alfalfa soil health takes a long time, but you will find it also has positive benefits for humans as well.

Alfalfa has a great nutritional profile. It has good vitamin and mineral content. The roots of the alfalfa plant go very deep into the soil, some reports say as much as 60 feet. So the plant can extract a lot of vitamins and minerals from the soil.

Alfalfa has antioxidant properties that can decrease cell damage and protect the cells.

It can affect blood sugar levels and may stabilize high blood sugars. It is important to note it could decrease blood sugar to a point where it is too low so monitoring blood sugar levels in diabetes is important when taking alfalfa.

Alfalfa supports normal blood lipid (fats) levels. So those with cholesterol issues may have positive benefits from taking alfalfa.

It can support fluid levels and help with bloating and excess fluid retention.

Cautions: Alfalfa could cause photosensitivity in some people.

Pacific kelp

Kelp is a seaweed that grows in forests in deep water. It is rich in nutrients and has a variety of uses. There are a plethora of scientific studies looking at the health benefits of components of kelp. Here I have listed a few of the benefits.

Kelp is high in iodine. Iodine is a mineral that synthesizes the thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. Iodine deficiency may result in overactive thyroid, anovulation, and may contribute to some abnormal cell proliferation. Iodine is not found in significant amounts in most foods. For most people, the main source of iodine is from processed foods and salt. If you tend to use more sea salt, it actually may have less iodine than regular table salt. So a great way to increase your iodine is to include more sea vegetables, like kelp, in your diet.

Kelp has a high amount of B vitamins which support the bodys' energy levels.

Kelp contains fucosterol - a phytosterol, that has many health benefits including balancing blood fats. supporting the liver's detoxing ability, and supports bone health. There are also studies showing it may also help maintain healthy blood sugar levels by improving insulin resistance.

Another constituent from kelp, alginate, has been studied in regards to weight management and satiety. Many studies have shown positive results for alginate helping to maintain a healthy weight.

Cautions: Kelp does have a slight laxative effect, so start slow.

It supports normal blood fat levels and blood sugar levels and may improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic syndrome. It may improve fertility in men. Arginine is also required for detoxification of ammonia.
