supplement spotlight - fish oil

Why do we need to take fish oil and what is it good for?

I am always asked what supplements I take. So I will be periodically highlighting some of the ones I take.

Fish oil is a great source of essential fatty acids, specifically omega-3 fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are fats that the body needs but cannot make or produce on it’s own. So we must get these fats from the foods we eat. Omega 3 is one of those fats. Omega 3 fatty acids support brain health, heart health, your cardiovascular system, and your joints.

I like OmegaGize 3. it is a supplement from Young Living. Whenever possible I use Young Living products. Although I will say that I think there are other fabulous companies out there that make supplement and nutrition products. But I love Young Living and I love the addition of essential oils that they put in their supplements to enhance the absorption and make them work better.

This supplement is a blend of Fish Oil, Clove EO (Syzygium aromaticum), Rice Tocotrienols, CoQ10 Kaneka™, German Chamomile EO (Matricaria recutita), Spearmint EO (Mentha spicata), Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol), Mixed Carotenoids,

The oil in OmegaGize3 is produced from carefully selected Peruvian and Chilean coastal marine fish oil, one of the cleanest ocean areas in the world. Consisting mainly of anchovy, sardine, mackerel, skipjack, yellowfin, albacore and bigeye fish species. The raw ingredient is tested for heavy metal by the manufacturer and it has to meet their strict requirements. Also the source of fish used follows additional strict guidelines and testing requirements. Moreover, they also test the finished product to make sure it meets or exceeds heavy metal standards compliance.
It is wild-caught, not farmed.

Clove oil is an antioxidant and supports the cardiovascular system.
CoQ10 - this is also known as coenzyme Q 10 or ubiquinone. CoQ10 is an antioxidant and helps support the heart and skeletal muscles.
Rice tocotrienol - This is kind of fancy term for vitamin E. You will find this in many fish supplements. It helps to keep the fish oil from going rancid.
German Chamomile is an antioxidant.
Spearmint Oils - Supports the gall bladder.

Recommended amounts of omega3 vary by individual, but in general it is recommended to take ~300-600 mg per day. There is approximately 310 mg/serving of DHA and approximately 135 mg/serving of EPA in this supplement.
