a night of greek cooking - guest post

March 4, 2013

This is a guest post from my sister, Julie. I think this is my first time having a guest post and since she doesn't have a blog, her first blog post as well! Thanks for contributing.

Hello suzyhomemaker fans, I am Suzy’s sister, Julie. Thank you Suzy for letting me participate.

I belong to a small cooking club. We started with cooking recipes from Julia Childs' cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and have now moved on to cooking Greek food.
Our first Greek dinner was just a couple weeks ago. The menu consisted of:

  • Roasted leg of lamb with couscous
  • Stuffed mussels
  • Salad with Greek salad dressing
  • Pitas
  • Cake

All very yummy! My contribution was the salad and pitas.

Salad

I improvised on the salad veggies, but the dressing was followed to the letter, and then doubled.

The recipe for this dressing can be found on Food.com.

I put everything in a mason jar a shook it up. Easy mixing, easy storage for leftovers. The lemon and mustard make it tangy, and a little goes a long way. This will become a dressing staple in our house.

Pitas

The pitas were especially fun and easy to do. The recipe for the pitas can be found on kitchn.com.

I did divide the balls of dough one more time than the recipe states to make them a bit smaller. The pitas were an extra side dish and by making them smaller everyone was able to have a taste. These will also become a staple.

It made me laugh each time they puffed up and formed the pocket.

Thanks again Suz for letting me share.
