I found some words of wisdom about intuitive eating in an unlikely place - Mindy Kalings book Why Not Me.
words of wisdom from Mindy Kaling

My friends and family know I am a huge The Office fan. I've watched it from day one and have rewatched it about a million times.  And I love Mindy Kaling. Not only is she so funny on film, but she is a fantastic writer.

If you have not read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me - go get it. So funny.

Her latest book (or at least the latest I have read) Why Not Me had a quote about food in it that perfectly aligns with intuitive eating and my simple eating philosophy.

I can't for the life of me not eat something that I want to eat. You know how if you turned on a faucet in your sink to wash your hands, the idea of leaving the bathroom without turning it off is insane? That's how I am about ignoring delicious food. I can go five years without taking any kind of vacation, but I have never once refrained from eating a Girl Scout Tagalong cookie if someone bring in a box to work. The very idea of not taking one (OK, nine) seems crazy to me.
The truth is, if I were going to lose weight successfully, I would have to think about what I eat constantly. I cannot imagine a life more boring and a more time-consuming obsession than being preoccupied with watching what I eat.

I don't know if she wrote this to try to persuade others to obsess less about food, or she was just sharing about her love of eating. It doesn't really matter why. There is so much wisdom in this one little quote.

The thing is, many of us are obsessed with everything we put in our mouths. It is in the interest of being healthy, yet is not healthy. It is one thing to be super excited about your next meal because you are going to your favorite restaurant to get your favorite meal. And the reason you don't eat it more is because it is 5 states away. It is another thing to be thinking about your next meal because you have been starving yourself with meal replacement shakes and cannot wait to chew your "sensible meal."

I wrote about my desire to chew my food in I don't like drinking my food.

So I not only highly recommend Mindy Kaling's books, I also really take to heart the quote above and how wonderful for her that she does not spend that much time worrying about what she eats. It's something to think about.
